IT snake oil: Six tech cure-alls that went bunk

I will list the 6 tech cure-alls that went bunk and further reading will be needed to define why they are snake oil.
1. Artificial intelligence
2. Computer-aided software engineering (CASE)
3. Thin clients
4. ERP systems
5. B-to-b marketplaces
6. Enterprise social media

Thin clients every 10 years are a good idea, then later not so much. ERP Systems are great but the overhead and headache to put them in is not. B to B marketplaces would be great if it was equal but that rarely/never happens. I would say it is still to early to know about Enterprise social media.
